What is Pantone?

Pantone is a color standards company founded in 1963. Its PMS (Pantone Matching System) is shared globally by designers and printers. Pantone provides pre-mixed "Spot" inks that CMYK 4-color printing cannot reliably reproduce — useful for vibrant, fluorescent, metallic, or brand-exclusive colors. For example, Coca-Cola Red is Pantone 484 C and Facebook Blue is Pantone 287 C. The annual "Color of the Year" is a trend benchmark in fashion, interior, and design.

FAQ

Do these HEX values match official Pantone exactly?

No — they are sRGB approximations of physical ink chips. For exact print, compare to official Pantone Color Guides or specify PMS number to your printer.

Coated (C) vs Uncoated (U)?

Same PMS on coated paper appears more vibrant; uncoated absorbs ink and looks muted. This tool focuses on Coated approximations.

Can I convert Pantone to CMYK?

Technically yes but you lose Spot color vibrancy. Keep brand/logo colors as Spot; use CMYK for body content/images.

Commercial use?

Color values themselves aren't copyrightable. Using the "PANTONE" trademark in products/ads requires a license from Pantone LLC.
